Sue Steptoe is an artist whose craft wakes her up in the morning and keeps her up at night. Inspired by songs, dreams, cultural events, and her own extraordinary life, Sue honors her compulsion to create even when the materials available are cardboard and packing paper.  As a result, the substantial body of her work is all-encompassing and deeply personal.
Standing in the honored tradition of Grandma Moses, Clementine Hunter, and David C "Snap" Wyatt,  you will find expressions of daily life depicted with deceptive simplicity. Within them, discover timeless themes and profound emotions. Come experience the breadth of this artist's vision and celebrate the beauty of her world.

What is folk art?
"Nothing has a more intimate connection with a person and their culture than folk art. It encompasses the artist’s personal expression in a visual form as experienced by their community.  American
folk painters do not follow traditional norms like perspective and lighting. Their paintings may be bold in color and highly stylized. The results provide a cultural legacy unlike any other."
