We are discerning steps for supporting congregational growth and generating revenue. In that process, we must decide what to do with the house on our campus. Currently, the house is vacant and needs ongoing repairs. On May 1, 2023, Pastor Rebecca had a phone conversation with Jan Cameron, the Preservation Administrator for the Cultural Preservation Board of the city. She called to ask about the permit application process. However, Ms. Cameron took an interest in our situation and researched while Pastor Rebecca waited. She went online, looked up some information about 6522 Michigan Avenue and listened as Pastor Rebecca explained the proposal to possibly demolish the house to expand the parking lot. Ms. Cameron explained the criteria the board would use to make a determination. She said that the Cultural Preservation board can't "pre-approve" demolition prior to receiving a demolition company application. After Ms. Cameron did the evaluation of the property and its location in a Historic District, Pastor Rebecca asked her what our chances were, she said,
".. it is highly unlikely that you would be approved."
The Clergy, Wardens and Vestry now pivot to parish-wide conversation about a vision for using the building for the glory of God and the sustainability of St. Paul's finances.
In mid-June, your Vestry will begin reaching out to you to provide options for the use of the building.
