Caring for our Neighbors

Caring for our Neighbors
Caring for the Earth
Our duty to our neighbors is to love them as ourselves, and to do to other people as we wish them to do to us (BCP, p. 848).

St. Paul's has a long history of involvement in the Carondelet neighborhood. Some local established non-profits (like the Historical Society, Health Center, and the Patch Community Garden) were born out of the work of this parish and our diocese.

Here are some of the ways we serve our neighbors and those living in the margins of our community:
  • Community Meals
St. Paul's hosts a free home-cooked community meal in our parish hall on the 1st and 3rd Thursdays of each month (October - April). During the warmer summer months, we host free Friday barbeques once each month (May - September). All neighbors, friends, and members are welcome to enjoy these fun and delicious meals!

  • Resource Box
St. Paul's has a resource box along the sidewalk in front of our church. The box is stocked with non-perishable food items and recovery supplies (Narcan). Neighbors are welcome to take what they need.

  • Winter Outreach
St. Paul's participates in the St. Louis Winter Outreach program, providing those experiencing homelessness a warm place to sleep and a hot meal during the frigid winter season.

  • Neighborhood Meetings, Arts Programs, and Performances
St. Paul's welcomes local community leaders and artists to use our space for meetings and special shows and performances. Contact the church office if you are interested in using our space.

  • Free WiFi (surrounding church campus)
St. Paul's has free, open WiFi service that extends to the street for our neighbors to use. You are welcome to sit on the bench outside to catch up on your digital communications.

  • Recovery Groups
St. Paul's is pleased to host AA meetings in our parish hall. Check the listings for South St. Louis City for days and times.

  • Heigham House
St. Paul's owns a house adjacent to our church that we call the Heigham House, which is named after St. Paul's former rector, Llew Heigham. After much discernment and prayer, we committed to using the property as a home for an immigrant family. In cooperation with the International Institute of St. Louis and funding from the Conrad Family Foundation, we welcomed a family originally from Central African Republic into the Heigham House in July 2024.
